Among various strategies employed to address odor issues throughout the treatment process, the use of activated carbon filters in the final stages is particularly effective. ACF utilizes a bed of activated carbon, renowned for its high adsorption capacity due to its extensive surface area (1 gram of carbon offers about 500 square meters of surface).
To ensure reliability and minimize downtime, the ACF unit can be equipped with two fans for air conveyance, arranged in a duty-standby configuration. This setup ensures continued operation even in the event of a fan failure.
A notable feature of the ACF is the option to install an H2S sensor at the exhaust discharge chimney. This sensor is instrumental in determining the precise timing for replacing the activated carbon, thereby optimizing the filter’s performance and lifespan.
For construction, the ACF can be made from hot galvanized mild steel or stainless steel (grades 304 or 316). Depending on specific requirements, other types of steel, such as duplex or AISI 904, can also be used to cater to different environmental conditions and durability needs.
